Sorry for the long break. We added a member to our family, and I’ve had more relatives at my house than there are exhibitors registered for MacWorld Boston. But I am back, and glad to be.

This month we’ve happened upon an accidental theme on MacMerc. James (here and here) and I (here) have posted a review and tutorials on handhelds, and I’ll have another handheld-related review posted shortly.

Why the sudden burst of interest? Well, I would speculate that handhelds are getting interesting again. With multimedia-capable processors and Bluetooth on most new models, PDA’s have risen to peer status with our desktops. Throw in WiFi and throw out your cradle.

After bagging my Visor Prism months ago after syncing became a nightmare, I never looked back. But when I picked up my new Dell Axim, it wasn’t for addresses or appointments - it was for mobile internet and video. Wait for a video/WiFi/Bluetooth iPod? Who needs to when there are plenty of Palm and Windows Mobile (oh, and Linux) devices that fit the bill?
